Could I have caught the STI / STD?
Yes, it is possible you caught the STI / STD, under the right circumstances. STIs / STDs (Sexually Transmitted Infections or Sexually Transmitted Diseases) can be transmitted when having sex—vaginal, anal, or oral. STIs / STDs are among the most frequent and contagious of diseases most commonly spread through sexual intercourse. The bacteria and viruses that cause STIs / STDs are found in semen, blood, vaginal secretions, and sometimes saliva. However some, like genital herpes and genital warts, can be spread through skin-to-skin contact.
Over 65 million Americans are now infected with an incurable STI / STD. Each year, 29 million more become infected with STIs / STDs, and almost 4 million of these are teenagers.

Using latex condoms correctly each time you have sex and being in a mutually monogamous relationship with a partner can reduce your risks, however it’s not a guaranteed safety net. If your girlfriend got a positive STI / STD test, we would highly recommend getting STI / STD testing.
What are the STI / STD symptoms and effects?
Many STIs / STDs have no obvious symptoms or if any, are very mild ones. Yet no matter how minor the STI / STD symptoms are, they can still be harmful to you and your sexual partner(s). It’s important to get an STI / STD test and seek treatment as early as possible to restore your health as well as to stop the spread of the infection or disease to others.
How do I get an STI / STD test?
All STI / STD testing requires an appointment. At CAPS, all our tests are simple, quick, and private to ensure your comfort and peace of mind. We currently provide low to no cost STI / STD testing—no one is turned away due to inability to pay.
