PREGNANCY OBSTETRICAL ULTRASOUND
The purpose of an obstetrical ultrasound is to:
- Confirm pregnancy
- Detect cardiac activity
- Determine fetal age
- Determine due date (a pregnancy due date calculator)
- Determine if it’s a multiple birth pregnancy (twins, triplets, etc.)
- Determine the location of the pregnancy (intrauterine/ectopic)
Ultrasound Limitations
CAPS provides a Free ultrasound which is a “limited obstetrical ultrasound”. For an ultrasound, it must be between 6-24 weeks since your first day of LMP (last menstrual period). The ultrasound examination is not intended to determine the sex of your baby. CAPS will not diagnose any potential abnormalities and/or problems, which is the role of an OB/GYN professional. We cannot perform an ultrasound if you are already under the care of an OB/GYN for this pregnancy.
WHAT IS AN ULTRASOUND?
Ultrasound utilizes high frequency sound waves to obtain images. There are no confirmed harmful effects in the thirty plus years of clinical use.
CAPS Medical Personnel will go over the Free ultrasound procedure, explain the pregnancy due date calculator, and answer any questions you have.
